Homemade Foundry - Supplier Links
To help other people out that are trying to build a foundry, here's a quick listing of my main supplers. At first I had trouble finding suppliers for a lot of the items with my furnace, but I ended up finding almost everything locally. I highly recommend that others try to find local suppliers; it's much less hassle, faster, and can save you a lot of money!
www.dansworkshop.com - Where I bought the plans for my foundry. I can't recommend them enough. He's also got plans for some other cool looking projects.
www.canadianthermix.com - This is where I bought my crucible. I found them to be very nice to work with, and their pricing to be reasonable. They also sell refractory, tongs, shanks, etc. and have a cool warehouse full of huge crucibles and ladles (by my standards anyway). Also, they are in Aurora, which is local to my area so I didn't have to pay any shipping costs.
www.alphatherm.ca - My refractory supplier. I would have bought it from Canadian Thermix but Alphatherm already had an appropriate refractory in stock. They were fairly knowledgeable and even helped my mom load 200 lbs of refractory into her trunk! Another main reason that I dealt with them was that they are local; I really didn't want to pay to ship refractory.
www.tuckerspottery.com - They custom made my furnace element for a very reasonable price. I'll be going back when I need another one. They're also a local vendor.
www.homedepot.ca - Where I bought the shell, handles, pipe, wiring, screws, etc.
www.budgetcastingsupply.com - I've never used BCS personally, but they seem to be quite popular. They sell just about everything, but I would need to pay shipping charges and possibly duty through customs. I've also managed to find everything locally for cheaper.
Note to suppliers: If you would like your site removed from this page, please email me and I'll take it down immediately.
